Pittsburgh, Pa. – Director of Operations for the
Robert Morris University women's hockey team, and Buffalo Beauts forward
Kelley Steadman of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) was named a captain for the 2017 All-Star Weekend, which will take place at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, Pa., announced the league Wednesday afternoon.
Steadman, the 2016 NWHL All-Star MVP, will take on a captain role alongside Amanda Kessel of the New York Riveters for all 2017 NWHL All-Star events at the state-of-the-art practice facility of the 2016 Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
Events will take place on Saturday, Feb. 11 and Sunday, Feb. 12.
Steadman is just one of four Robert Morris connections active in the NWHL. RMU alumnae Morgan Beikirch, two-time Olympic silver medalist Brianne McLaughlin, and
Ashley Vesci also compete for the Buffalo Beauts.
Last season, Steadman was named the first-ever NWHL All-Star MVP. Steadman recorded 13 goals in 10 games played with the Beauts in 2015-16. She led the league in power-play goals (five), ranked third in goals, and fifth in points (20).
At the collegiate level, Steadman competed for the Mercyhurst Lakers, and was recruited to the College Hockey America (CHA) squad in Erie, Pa., by current RMU women's hockey head coach
Paul Colontino. At Mercyhurst, Steadman recorded 78 goals and 54 assists in 140 games played, and ranks among the top 10 all time at Mercyhurst in individual career points, goals, goals per game, power-play goals, and shorthanded goals.
