Moon Township, Pa. – Junior April Krivoniak of the Robert Morris University indoor track & field team was honored by the Northeast Conference (NEC) for her achievements on the field and in the classroom, as she was chosen 2015-16 NEC Women's Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year in an announcement by the league office Friday.

This is Krivoniak's first such award in track & field. However, the dual-sport student-athlete earned the same award from the NEC for her efforts in volleyball this past fall.

To be eligible for the NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in a sport, a student-athlete must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours at their institution, maintained a minimum cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.

Krivoniak carries a 3.99 grade point average while majoring in biomedical and mechanical engineering.

Krivoniak capped off her award-winning indoor season by breaking the school record in the shot put with a heave of 14.06 meters at the ECAC Championships. As a result, she earned All-East Coast honors for the second time in the two indoor seasons in which she has competed. Krivoniak, who became the first Colonial ever to toss the shot more than 46 feet, surpassed the ECAC qualifying standard in the event on three occasions prior to that meet. She contributed four of the eight longest throws in program history in the shot put in 2016 and now owns six of the 10 best tosses ever at RMU. Krivoniak earned All-NEC Second Team honors in the event in 2015-16 after claiming runner-up honors at the NEC Indoor Championships. That finish was part of a stretch in which she finished among the top four in the shot put in each of the final five meets in which she competed. Krivoniak was named NEC Field Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career Feb. 2.

Krivoniak is the third Colonial to win this league award in women's indoor track and the first since 2012. She is also the third Colonial to earn a NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in two different sports, but she is the first to not achieve the feat via an indoor/outdoor track double.

In addition to the honor for Krivoniak, a total of 37 student-athletes from Robert Morris covering three NEC winter sports, including 35 female student-athletes, were named to the 2015-16 NEC Winter Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for the honor roll, student-athletes must have posted a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and be an active member of an officially recognized varsity team. Freshmen are eligible for the honor roll.

Of RMU's 37 student-athletes to be named to the 2015-16 NEC Winter Academic Honor Roll, 10 were named to the NEC Winter Commissioner's Honor Roll. To garner that honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.75, and freshmen are eligible for the honor roll.
