Moon Township, Pa. – Freshman
Laura Coulter of the
Robert Morris University softball team was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Co-Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league Monday afternoon.
This marks the first time in program history in which more than one Colonial has been honored in the Pitcher of the Week category within the same season. Fellow rookie
Kaitlin Ellzy was recognized in that category in the March 14 and March 28 league releases.
Coulter had a strong ending to her inaugural collegiate regular season as she helped RMU to a 3-1 week as the Colonials wrapped up a playoff berth and the third seed in the NEC Tournament. She did not allow a run in 9.2 innings of work this past week as she scattered seven hits and walked only one. Opponents hit only .194 off of Coulter in the past week. After throwing 2.2 innings of shutout relief against CCSU, Coulter had perhaps her best outing of the season Sunday. The rookie spun a five-hit shutout against Fairleigh Dickinson and did not walk a batter.
Coulter, who twirled her first shutout as a collegian this past week, posted a solid 3.08 ERA within league play. In her last 13 appearances overall, Coulter is 4-3 with a 3.06 ERA.
Robert Morris will open play in the NEC Tournament this Thursday, May 12, against Saint Francis.
