Moon Township, Pa. - The
Robert Morris University women's soccer team will play half of its 20 games at the friendly confines of North Athletic Complex in 2016. The Colonials will prepare for their eight-game Northeast Conference schedule with a 12-game non-league slate that features six home games.
Â
RMU advanced farther into the postseason in 2015 than ever before, earning a spot in the NEC Championship game after posting a league mark of 5-3. The Colonials finished the season 10-11 overall.
Â
The Colonials open their 2016 slate by hosting a trio of games beginning with Bowling Green in a 5:00 p.m. match at North Athletic Complex on Aug. 14. RMU and Youngstown State meet for the 21st consecutive season Aug. 19 in a 1:00 p.m. contest before Central Michigan visits Aug. 21. The Colonials and Chippewas have not met since 1998.
Â
Robert Morris and Niagara have met every season since 2006 and will continue that streak on Aug. 26. RMU remains in the Buffalo area to take on Canisius (Aug. 28), a team they have not lost to since 1994 and own a 5-2 mark against all-time. A lone home game against Longwood (Sept. 2), the first meeting between the squads, follows before the Colonials travel to Penn (Sept. 4) and Akron (Sept. 8). It marks the first meeting against the Quakers going back to 2008 and the first on campus meeting against the Zips since 2002.
Â
Ohio visits North Athletic Complex (Sept. 11) before Howard rounds out the non-conference home slate Sept. 15. The end of league play comes on the back of a pair of road games at Northern Kentucky (Sept. 18) and UMBC (Sept. 22). The home team has won all three games in the short series against the Norse.
Â
NEC play opens Sept. 30 at Bryant, a game that is a rematch of last season's semifinal match which RMU won 2-1 – and was the first Colonials win against the Bulldogs in eight tries. The first weekend of league play finishes with a visit to Sacred Heart (Oct. 2), a series that has seen the home team win each of the last eight games.
Â
The Colonials beat saint Francis U last season for the first time since 2002 last season and will look to make it two in a row when its hosts the Red Flash Oct. 7. They've already won two in a row against LIU Brooklyn, the team's next opponent on the 2016 slate. Road games at Mount St. Mary's (Oct. 16) and Fairleigh Dickinson (Oct. 21) follow before league play ends with home matches against Wagner (Oct. 28) and Central Connecticut (Oct. 30).
