NOTES: Robert Morris @ ShareSLO Holiday Classic (11.24-25.17)
The Opponents
All three teams in the ShareSLO Holiday Classic own 1-2 records in the early portion of the 2017-18 season.
Â
The host, Cal Poly, fell in its opener to San Francisco and at Saint Mary's - those results sandwiching a 75-69 home triumph against Grand Canyon. Senior guard Lynn Leaupepe leads the Mustangs in scoring (19.0 ppg) and rebounding (7.7 rpg). She's one of three players averaging double-figures in scoring, joining her twin sister Dynn Leaupepe (11.0 ppg) and junior center Devin Stanback (13.0 ppg).
Â
San Francisco has dropped games to Washington State and Northern Colorado after winning against Cal Poly. Junior guard Shannon Powell is the team's leader in scoring (16.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.5 rpg), with senior guard Anna Seilund close behind at 13.0 points per contest.
The Series
This will be the first meeting for Robert Morris against both Cal Poly and San Francisco.
Â
Last Time Out
Robert Morris led wire-to-wire at Northern Kentucky on Tuesday, picking up its first win of the season by a 59-50 score.
Nneka Ezeigbo made her season debut, leading all players with 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting and seven rebounds. The Colonials led by as many as 16 points in the first half and didn't allow the Norse to come within six down the stretch.
Â
Doing It With Defense
In its win on Tuesday, RMU held Northern Kentucky to 26.1 percent shooting and a 1-of-17 performance from beyond the arc. Last season, the Colonials held eight opponents to under 30 percent from the field and led the NEC in scoring (57.0) and field goal defense (.367).
Â
California Love
Both Cal Poly and San Francisco are new opponents for Robert Morris in its history. They are the only two new foes to appear on the Colonials' 2017-18 slate, after playing three (Florida International, Lafayette, Vanderbilt) last season.
Â
Buckets Full of Paint
RMU scored 61 percent (36 of 59) of its points in the paint at Northern Kentucky on Tuesday. The last time the Colonials have recorded that many points in the paint was Jan. 6, 2014 when they tallied 36 of 57 (63.2 percent) points at Sacred Heart.
Â
Mikalah Makes Them All(most)
Senior center
Mikalah Mulrain has been efficient around the rim during her career, as her .512 field goal percentage ranks fifth all-time at RMU. Mulrain, who established a single-game record for field goal percentage last season, is shooting 66.7 percent from the floor in 2017-18, pacing the NEC.
Â
Milestone Watch
Megan Smith,
Mikalah Mulrain, and
Jocelynne Jones are all on pace to join some exclusive clubs this season. Smith is close to eclipsing 1,000 career points, while Mulrain and Jones are inching closer to 500 rebounds and 100 steals, respectively. Below is a look at how close they are to reaching these marks:
Â
Smith: 911 points, 89 away from 1,000
Mulrain: 464 rebounds, 36 away from 500
Jones: 95 steals, 5 away from 100
Insurmountable Lead
Robert Morris has never lost a game in which it has held the lead at the end of the second half. The Colonials were 22-0 in such situations during the 2016-17 campaign and 1-0 this season. All-time, RMU is 574-0 when leading at the final whistle.
