Pittsburgh, Pa. - Robert Morris University men's hockey senior forward Daniel Leavens has signed with the Wheeling Nailers, the ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Leavens is expected to be in the lineup Wednesday night as the Nailers host Idaho.

Leavens, an alternate captain, finished this season with 49 points on 14 goals and 35 assists, the fifth best individual season in program history. The senior from Toronto is owner of the single-season assists record with 35 helpers his senior season. Leavens posted five game-winning goals in his senior campaign and eight over the course of his career.

Leavens scored 40 goals and 68 assists in 136 career games, and will graduate as the eighth all-time leading scorer at Robert Morris with 108 career points. Leavens had a plus-17 rating and was a member of both the Colonials power play and penalty kill units, with ten strikes on the man-advantage and a pair of shorthanded goals to go with 67 blocked shots.

"Daniel has been a very good player for us," said Robert Morris head coach Derek Schooley. "His talent and character have been outstanding and we can't begin to thank him enough for his contributions to our program."

Leavens joins former Colonials forward Cody Wydo '15 on the Nailers roster. Several other RMU alums have played for Wheeling over the years, all of which can be found on our Colonials in the Pros page.

Robert Morris (22-12-4) wrapped up the 2016-17 campaign with its fourth 20-plus win season, each coming in the last five years. The Colonials finished as Atlantic Hockey conference runners-up after a hard-fought 2-1 loss in the tournament championship game, the school's third appearance in the title game in the last four seasons. Robert Morris will graduate four seniors, losing one defenseman, and returns nearly 80-percent of its offense and two goaltenders for the 2017-18 season.
