Kingston, Jamaica – Devon "Speedy" Williams, a former midfielder (2011-14) for the Robert Morris University men's soccer team, earned his first international start with the Jamaica Men's National Team in its friendly against 2018 World Cup qualifier South Korea on Jan. 30.
After earning a pair of call-ups against Canada and Saudi Arabia last year, Williams made his first career appearance in the Jamaica Starting XI. He played 83 minutes in Jamaica's 2-2 draw against South Korea in Turkey.
Williams enjoyed another successful professional season, capturing the United Soccer League (USL) Cup with Louisville City FC this past November. In a 1-0 nail biter, it was the former Colonial setting up the winning goal in the 89th minute, as he played a cross into the box that found the head of Cameron Lancaster.
This past season, Williams started 20 of 23 games and saw 1,846 minutes of action for Louisville City FC. He posted an 86.8 percent success rate on all passes, a 69.5 success rate on long passes, and averaged 65.3 passes per 90 minutes according to the statistics website Opta.
While donning the Robert Morris colors, Williams made the All-NEC Second Team in 2013 before gaining First Team accolades the following season. He appeared in 71 matches over his Colonial career and compiled 32 points (8g, 16a), including a four-goal, six-assist performance in 2014.
