Bruckner Tabbed as NEC Defensive Player of the Week

Sydney Bruckner opened her sophomore season by earning the weekly award after stopping 16 of 17 shots in two matches

Moon Township, Pa. – Sydney Bruckner, a sophomore goalkeeper on the Robert Morris University women's soccer team, has been named Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league this Monday afternoon.

Bruckner, a native of Mechanicsburg, Pa., helped Robert Morris earn an opening weekend split with 16 saves in two matches. She began her sophomore campaign with a seven-save clean sheet in a 1-0 victory at UMBC this past Friday, six of which came in the second half. Bruckner followed her fourth career shutout with a nine-save effort against Ohio on Sunday, eclipsing her previous best of eight stops, which was set on four different occasions last season.

This is the second Defensive Player of the Week plaudit of Bruckner's young career and third weekly award overall. She brought home both it and Rookie of the Week accolades on Oct. 23, 2017 after stopping 15 of the 16 shots she faced in a two-win weekend against Fairleigh Dickinson and Mount St. Mary's.

In 18 appearances, Bruckner ranks second all-time at RMU in save percentage (.809) and goals against average (1.32). Last season, she was the first Colonial goalkeeper to be named to the All-NEC Rookie Team.

Robert Morris begins a four-match road trip on Friday, August 24 at 7:00 p.m. when it travels to Canisius.
