PITTSBURGH -- For the
Robert Morris women's hockey team, its best penalty killer over the weekend was, indeed, its goaltender, and according to College Hockey America, its goaltender was the best in the conference during a busy week of action.
Lauren Bailey has received the fourth CHA Goalie of the Week award of her senior season, the conference announced Monday. RIT's Terra Lanteigne, a five-time winner, did all she could to keep the Colonials at bay, but it was the 5'9" Freeland, Michigan native and Choate Rosemary Hall product who had the last laugh in a pair of RMU victories over the CHA rival Tigers at the Island Sports Center.
Robert Morris went 7-for-7 on the PK for the series and, dating back to the 2016-17 campaign, has killed 42 of its past 43 penalties taken against RIT. Bailey turned aside all 14 shots faced Saturday in a 2-0 win, her third shutout of the year and second against the Tigers, with five of those shots on goal coming on the penalty kill.
She made 16 saves in a 3-1 decision Friday, the team's first annual Mental Health Awareness Game, which coincided with its 13th annual "Skate For The Cure" weekend as a member of CHA. Through Monday, her senior class, in cooperation with Never Give Up Radio and The Goalie Guild, had helped raise over $1,500 for the Anxiety & Depression Association of America (ADAA), Athletes Against Anxiety and Depression (AAAD) and the Lift The Mask initiative.
Bailey collected career wins No. 19 and 20, putting her one behind former teammate
Elijah Milne-Price '18 for fourth in program history.
Her 0.50 goals-against average and .968 save percentage for the series were both the best among CHA netminders who started both games of their teams' series this past week. Bailey's 1.24 GAA since Jan. 18 is among the NCAA's top ten, and her .943 save percentage in that span ranks eighth among Division I seniors.Â
The Colonials (11-11-4, 9-2-1) have won three straight to hang onto their three-point lead over Mercyhurst in the conference standings, and Bailey has allowed only three goals in the process. RMU has built a six-point cushion, for that matter, in the race to secure one of two available first-round byes in the CHA Tournament Mar. 6-8.
After taking their 12th straight meeting and 15th in 16 from the Tigers, Robert Morris settles in for a bye week before another key CHA matchup at Penn State Feb. 8-9.
Both 1:00 p.m. ET contests from Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, Pennsylvania can be seen free on GoPSUSports.com.
