Moon Township, Pa. – Robert Morris University women's soccer head coach John Kowalski has announced the addition of eight newcomers to the team's 2019 roster.
Robert Morris' incoming class features seven freshmen and a transfer from Northeast Conference (NEC) foe Long Island. Five of the eight new Colonials call Pennsylvania home, with two coming from New Jersey, and one from Norway.
Joining the Colonials in 2019 are Sofie Lien Fargereng (Oslo, Norway / Foss Videregående / Lyn Fotball), Gabriella Lecuona (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg Area / WYSA), Devan Noll (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley / Long Island), Sheridan Reid (Camp Hill, Pa. / Camp Hill / Keystone FC 00G), Jordan Rosengrant (Richland, Pa. / Eastern Lebanon County / PA Classics), Colleen Sullivan (Garwood, N.J. / Arthur L. Johnson / B'Elite Player Development SC), Angela Van Damia (Erie, Pa. / Mercyhurst Prep / MSA), and Kayla Veloso-Lima (Union, N.J. / Union / PDA ECNL).
Fargereng becomes the third international student-athlete on the 2019 RMU roster, joining seniors Julia Schmid of Germany and Megan DiNatale of Canada. The midfielder won the Gothia Cup in 2017 and Norway Cup in 2016, also claiming a 2015 runner-up finish in the latter. She played on the club circuit with Lyn Fotball and plans to major in psychology.
Lecuona helped lead Chambersburg Area to two district appearances, tallying 56 goals and 30 assists over her high school career. The forward made two Mid-Penn Commonwealth Division First Teams as a junior and senior, along with a Second Team nod as a sophomore. She played club soccer for Waynesboro Youth Soccer Association (WYSA), leading it to a State Cup title appearance. Also a basketball player at Chambersburg Area, Leucona's major is undecided.
Noll is a redshirt sophomore transfer from Long Island who played in eight contests last season. The midfielder started twice in 2018, and made NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll in both of her seasons in Brooklyn. In high school, she helped lead Cumberland Valley to three Mid-Penn and two District titles, and played club soccer for HMMS Eagle FC United '98. Noll plans to major in nursing.
Reid captained Camp Hill for three years, making two Mid-Penn Capital Division First Teams as a junior and senior, and the Second Team as a sophomore. The midfielder/forward helped lead the team to the PIAA Class A state championship game and District 3 Capital Division runner-up finish in 2017, and won the District 3 Capital Division crown in 2018 with an overtime goal. She was selected as the 2018 Mid-Penn Capital Division Preseason Player of the Year, and owns Camp Hill's school record for points with 178 (75g, 28a). Reid plans to major in biology.
Rosengrant helped lead Eastern Lebanon County to four section championships, and a district and league title. The defender was named to the All-Star LL Second Team as a junior and First Team as a senior, adding Big II Team accolades in 2018. She collected 11 goals and 22 assists in high school, and also competed in basketball and track & field. Rosengrant played club soccer for PA Classics and plans to major in sports management and marketing.
Sullivan was a key part of Arthur L. Johnson winning two conference titles in 2016 and 2017, and making deep state playoff runs in 2017 (runners-up) and 2018 (semifinals). The midfielder was named to three All-Conference teams and two All-County teams, headlined by First Team accolades in both as a senior. She garnered All-State Group 2 honors in 2018 after registering three goals and five assists at center midfield, and played club soccer for B'Elite Player Development SC Chaos. Sullivan plans to major in psychology.
Van Damia played in two PIAA AA state championship games at Mercyhurst Prep, lifting the trophy as a junior in 2017. The midfielder/defender was named PIAA All-State as a senior, and All-District 10 in three consecutive seasons. She recorded 33 goals and 30 assists over her high school career, and played club soccer for MSA. Van Damia plans to major in accounting.
Veloso-Lima earned All-Conference, All-County, and All-State accolades at Union, tallying 48 goals and 26 assists over her high school career. The forward played club soccer for PDA ECNL, and plans to major in nuclear medicine.
Robert Morris begins its 2019 campaign with a home preseason contest on Friday, August 9 against Detroit Mercy. The Colonals' first regular-season fixture is a road game against Bucknell on Thursday, August 22, followed by the home opener against Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday, August 25.
