PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Robert Morris University goaltender
Raygan Kirk put the finishing touches on a remarkable freshman regular season campaign Monday afternoon when she was named the College Hockey America Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row following her performance against Syracuse over the weekend.
Kirk started both games between the pipes for RMU, going 1-1 with .926 save percentage over two games. The Manitoba native stopped an incredible 38 shots in RMU's 2-0 win Friday, helping the Colonials overcome a 38-17 disparity in shots to earn her fourth shutout of the season. She stopped 28 of 31 the next afternoon in a losing effort.
It is the sixth weekly award Kirk has earned from the CHA this season. She was named Rookie of the Week for the first time back on September 30 before winning again last week, and has also taken home Goaltender of the Week honors three times, most recently on January 27th for her standout performance against Lindenwood.
Kirk was also named Goaltender of the Month after she put together one of the best stretches for an RMU goaltender in recent memory, going 4-3 with a 2.27 GAA and a .931 SV% in the month of January. The freshman posted 40 saves in a 3-1 loss to No.1 Wisconsin on January 4th, and earned her third shutout of the season vs. Lindenwood on January 24.
RMU enters the 2020 CHA Tournament as the #2 overall seed and will play in the semi-finals on Friday, March 6 at the Harbor Center in Buffalo.
