PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Robert Morris University seniors Jaycee Gebhard and Natalie Marcuzzi became the latest in a long line of former Colonials to join the professional ranks of women's hockey this week after it was announced that both had been selected by the new Toronto franchise of the National Women's Hockey League in their 2020 Entry Draft.
Gebhard was selected in the first round, sixth overall Tuesday evening by the still to be named franchise, which was officially announced last week and will join the league at the onset of the upcoming 2020-21 campaign.
The first draft pick in Toronto franchise history, Gebhard recently completed one of the most brilliant careers ever for a Colonial, leading College Hockey America in scoring and becoming the all-time leading scorer in RMU program history en-route to a First-Team All-CHA award in her senior year.
She is joined by classmate Marcuzzi, a fourth-round selection taken with the 22nd overall pick Wednesday night. The senior appeared in all 36 games for RMU in her final campaign, posting seven goals and fifteen points. A native of Thornhill, Ontario, Marcuzzi recorded 20 goals and 40 points in 139 career games for the Colonials and was named to the CHA All-Academic Team in her junior year.
The duo helped lead the Colonials to three straight regular-season titles from 2017-19 as well as four consecutive trips to the CHA Championship game, winning it all in 2017.
