Giles Earns Academic Honors From CoSIDA

Moon Township, Pa. –  Robert Morris University men's hockey alumni Sean Giles was named to the 2020 Academic All-District 2 Hockey Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced Thursday.

Giles will now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot for national recognition. Honorees will be announced in June. CoSIDA's District 2 includes student-athletes that play for institutions from the states of Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia as well as the District of Columbia.

A valuable member of the class of 2020, Giles wrapped up a brilliant career on the ice for RMU in March, appearing in all 37 games his final season and posting a goal and five assists as RMU stayed undefeated in best-of-three AHA playoff series, taking down Holy Cross in three games.

In 131 games patrolling the blue line for the Colonials as a defenseman, Giles recorded three goals and 25 total points. One of RMU's most committed defenders, Giles played a prominent role on RMU's penalty killing unit and recorded at least 40 blocked shots three out of his four seasons on the Island.

In the classroom, his accomplishments are even more impressive.  The senior defender graduated in May with a 3.99 GPA and a degree in Biomedical Engineering, earning just one A- in four years of class during his first semester freshman year.  Giles was named the Atlantic Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year in his sophomore season and twice received RMU Men's Hockey Student-Athlete of the Year awards as voted on by his teammates.
