Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University women's basketball team has announced the addition of freshman guard Riley Arrigo to the program.
Arrigo, a first-year guard from nearby Beaver Falls, Pa., joins the program as a walk-on after originally signing a scholarship agreement to play basketball at NCAA Division II New York Tech. She is the fourth freshman on the 2020-21 roster, alongside guard Mackenzie Amalia (Beaver Falls, Pa. / Blackhawk / Drill for Skill), forward Sol Castro (Rio Colorado, Argentina / Benito Quinquela Martin / Club Atlético Lanus), and center Yasmine Sifaoui (Madrid, Spain / IES Ramiro de Maeztu / Movistar Estudiantes).
"We had the pleasure to watch (Riley Arrigo) for a few years now during the AAU seasons and we were always impressed with her," said RMU head coach Charlie Buscaglia. "She comes from a great family and has received great coaching throughout her career. We are very excited about Riley joining our family, as she is a strong fit for our team."
A product of Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School and SLAAM, Arrigo graduated as Lincoln Park's all-time leader in points and assists, averaging 14.3 points, 6.2 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game. She was an All-Section First Team, Big 5/6 Conference First Team, and Beaver County Times Top 20 All-Star over her high school career, and garnered the MAAC Scholarship Athlete Award. By joining the Colonials, Arrigo becomes the first female in Lincoln Park history to play an NCAA Division I sport. The younger sister of head manager Philip Arrigo, Riley is majoring in criminal justice.
The addition of Arrigo gives RMU three women's basketball student-athletes from the Pittsburgh area, joining the aforementioned Amalia and junior guard Isabella Posset (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Area / Drill for Skill). Posset, when she joined ahead of the 2018-19 season, became the first player to join the team from the local ranks since 2013-14.
Robert Morris, who finished inside the top four of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Division I Honor Roll for the fourth straight campaign in 2019-20, finished this past season with a 23-7 overall record and 17-1 mark in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, capturing a fourth straight regular-season title in the process. Since 2013-14 among mid-major programs, the Colonials – a new member of the Horizon League – rank second in conference tournament titles (4), third in NCAA Tournament appearances (4), fourth in conference regular-season titles (5), ninth in conference wins (101), 14th in conference winning percentage (.802), 15th in postseason appearances (5), 16th in overall wins (150), and 19th in overall winning percentage (.661).
