Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU track & field team concluded its first meet of the 2021 spring indoor season Saturday with the YSU Mid-Major Invitational at the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS) in Youngstown, Ohio.
Senior
Estelle Katende claimed the individual title in the shot put to highlight Saturday's competition for the Colonials. She unleashed a toss of 13.68 meters (44'10.75") on her second attempt in earning gold. Also in the shot put for RMU, senior
Yessie Valencia finished sixth with a throw of 11.84 meters (38'10.25"), a new personal record.
RESULTS: YSU Mid-Major Invitational
In the 400-meter dash, sophomore
Elicia Moore claimed fourth with a time of 59.60 seconds. Moore was one of three Colonials to take home a top five finish at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational.
In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman
Gracie Parker finished fifth with a time of 9.46 seconds, one of three rookies competing at the meet to finish in the top five. In the 3,000-meter, senior
Martha Gardner also finished fifth, posting a time of 10:41.92, which shattered her previous personal record of 11:15.67 that was established in 2019 at the same meet.
Also on the track for the Colonials Saturday at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational, freshman
Rio Strosnider finished seventh in the 800-meter with a time of 2:25.12, the top time among five rookies competing in the event.

In the 200-meter dash, sophomore
Lauren Chappell recorded a personal best with a time of 27.58 seconds.
RMU gets back to action Friday, Feb. 12, by taking part in the Mastodon Invitational in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It marks the first time in program history the Colonials are taking part in the competition.
