Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU men's and women's cross country teams had its final competition of the regular season Saturday, with the men finishing fifth out of 12 teams and the women placing seventh out of 12 squads at the Canisius Alumni Classic in Buffalo, N.Y.
TEAM SCORES
The RMU men's team compiled 155 points in the meet held at Delaware Park, trailing only Geneseo (44), Canisius (47), St. Bonaventure (93) and Nazareth (104). Trailing the Colonials and rounding out the field was RIT (182), the Canisius Alumni (200), Daeman (209), Buffalo State (256), Niagara (274), Texas Lutheran (283) and D'Youville (326). For the women, the Colonials scored 176 points. Daeman won the women's team title with 63 points, followed by the host Golden Griffins (74), RIT (78), Geneseo (89), Niagara (134) and St. Bonaventure (150).

A pair of rookies earned top 10 finishes for the RMU women Saturday, with freshman
Grace Mason finishing fourth and freshman
Laura Croco placing 10th. Mason posted a time of 19:35.4 in the five-kilometer course, while Croco crossed the finish line with a time of 19:55.1. Libby Benzer of Canisius claimed the individual title at 18:41.5, followed by Katie Cobos (18:43.5) of RIT and Kassandra Nolet (19:01.8) of Daeman.

FOUR-FOR-FOUR
For the fourth consecutive meet during the 2021 season, freshman
Gavin Fitzgerald recorded the top time for the Colonials Saturday, navigating the eight-kilometer course with a time of 26:38.7 to also take home a top 10 finish. He claimed eighth individually. Brennan Root of Canisius Alumni won the individual title with a time of 25:46.3, followed by Tom Appenheimer, a junior for the host Golden Griffins, at 25:51.2.

RMU now gears up for the 2021 Horizon League Cross Country Championships, which will take place Saturday, Oct. 30, in Carmel, Ind., at the Northview Church Course. The championships will be hosted by IUPUI.
