Moon Township, Pa. – According to a poll of Horizon League head coaches, communication professionals and select members of the media, the RMU men's basketball team has been picked to finish 10th in the league in 2021-22. The poll was announced Tuesday by the Horizon League.
Cleveland State, the defending Horizon League Tournament champion, received 30 first-place votes and has been picked as the preseason favorite for 2021-22. Wright State, which received nine first-place tallies, has been picked second, followed by Northern Kentucky, Milwaukee and Detroit Mercy. The Norse earned one first-place vote, while the Panthers and Titans each received a pair.
Picked sixth was Oakland, followed by Youngstown State, UIC, Purdue Fort Wayne and the Colonials. Green Bay and IUPUI round out the poll.

Andrew Toole, RMU returns two starters and three letterwinners in 2021-22, including sophomore guard
Kam Farris and senior forward
Kahliel Spear. The duo combined to score 319 points in 2020-21, with Spear finishing third for the Colonials at 9.9 points per contest.
Farris scored at an 8.3 points per game clip and shot 46.1 percent (35-for-76) from beyond the arc in 17 games last season, including 16 starts. In addition to his average of 9.9 points per game, Spear grabbed an average of 5.2 rebounds per contest while ranking fourth in the Horizon League in blocks per game (1.28).

A total of
nine new Colonials are part of the 2021-22 roster for RMU, including graduate transfers
Rasheem Dunn and
Ferron Flavors, Jr. Dunn, a transfer from St. John's who began his career at St. Francis Brooklyn, enters the 2021-22 season having scored 1,407 career points at the NCAA Division I level. He also owns career totals of 306 assists and 146 steals and is just three rebounds shy of 500 for his career.
Flavors, Jr., a transfer from Oklahoma State who has also spent time at the NCAA Division I level at Fairfield and Cal Baptist, enters the 2021-22 season with career totals of 905 points and 207 three-pointers. During the 2019-20 season at Cal Baptist, Flavors, Jr., led the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in three-point field goal percentage (.439) and three-point field goals made per game (3.00).
The Colonials open the 2021-22 season Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Central Florida and will host Mount St. Mary's Friday, Nov. 19, at 7:00 p.m. at the UPMC Events Center to open their home slate. The contest against the Mount is part of the Kentucky Classic.
