RMU Finishes 13th at Joe Feaganes Marshall Invite

Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU golf team concluded its first tournament of the fall season Tuesday, placing 13th at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W. Va., at the Guyan Golf and Country Club. The Colonials posted a score of 894 (+42) for the three rounds.
 
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

Leading the charge for the Colonials during the final round was junior Alex Seelig, who finished at par with a career-low round of 71. He finished with six birdies Tuesday, including the 525-yard par five. On a par five in the first tournament of the season, Seelig averaged 4.89 strokes (-1), and he concluded the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational with a three-round score of 226.
 
THE LEADERBOARD

Host Marshall claimed the team championship at its home tournament, posting a score of 287 Tuesday to finish with a total of 845, seven strokes under par. The Thundering Herd finished eight strokes ahead of Wright State, which posted a score of 853 (+1). Rounding out the top five at the 2021 Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational was Dayton (859), Longwood (862) and Purdue Fort Wayne (866). Among Horizon League competitors, Youngstown State tied for seventh (875), Northern Kentucky (894) placed 12th and Cleveland State (899) finished 14th.
 
TOP HONORS

Sophomore Xavier Schwarz, a late addition to the lineup and penciled in at No. 5 for RMU, ended up taking home top honors for the Colonials in their season-opening tournament, carding a 73 Tuesday to wrap up the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational with a score of 221. He was one of six student-athletes competing in the invite to tie for 33rd individually. Medalist honors went to Tyler Goecke of Wright State, who finished three under par for the tournament, firing a 68-69-68 across the three rounds.
 
FIVE AGAINST ONE

Sophomore Skyler Fox produced the lone double eagle of the tournament Monday, helping the Colonials finish one under par throughout the tournament on a par five hole. RMU averaged 4.98 strokes when playing a par five and also finished the 2021 Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational with 34 birdies and 145 pars. Schwarz averaged 4.78 strokes on a par five (-2) for the invite to pace the Colonials, while Seelig and Schwarz also recorded the most birdies for the Colonials, as each finished with nine.
 
UP NEXT

RMU returns to action in early October with the Tom Tontimonia Invitational at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio. The invite is hosted by Cleveland State and takes place Monday, Oct. 4, and Tuesday, Oct. 5.
