Opening Tip
  • After over a week off for the holiday break, the Robert Morris women's basketball team continues its three-game home slate on Thursday evening when it hosts Purdue Fort Wayne for a 4:00 p.m. tipoff in Horizon League action at the UPMC Events Center.
  • After playing four straight road games, the Colonials returned to Moon Township with a dominating 63-39 victory over St. Bonaventure (12/16). Three Colonials were in double-figures, led by sophomore forward Phoenix Gedeon, who recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Sophomore center Danielle Vuletich recorded 12 points and six boards, while shooting four-of-six from the field. Sophomore guard Rebecca Dwomoh tallied 11 points, five rebounds, three assists, and a steal, while classmate Alejandra Mastral registered seven points, three boards, and three assists.
  • Sophomore guard Simone Morris grabbed seven caroms and junior guard Mackenzie Amalia paced the team with five assists, her third time this season recording five or more.
  • Coming off a four-game road slate and playing two of the top powerhouses in the Big 12, the Robert Morris defense was disruptive all night for the Bonnies. The Colonials held St. Bonaventure to just 7.7 percent (1-for-13) from the floor in the first quarter before holding them to just 4-of-27 (14.8 percent) shooting in the first half.
  • RMU forced 15 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes and 26 for the contest. The Colonials held the Bonnies to 23.5 percent (12-for-51) from the floor, their lowest they've held a team this season.
  • The Colonials put their undefeated home record on the line come Thursday evening as they are a perfect 6-0 at the UPMC Events Center. Robert Morris is averaging 68.1 points per game at home, while holding teams to just 44.3 points per game.
  • RMU concluded their non-conference schedule and finished with a 6-3 mark during that span. The Colonials faced two Big 12 powerhouses in West Virginia (12/8) and Oklahoma (12/11) as well as one of the top teams in the MAC in Akron (11/23).

The All-Time Series (PFW) – This will be the sixth all-time meeting between the Colonials and Mastodons as RMU holds a 4-1 record in the series. The Colonials have won four-straight meetings in the series, capturing a 70-56 victory in the first round of the Horizon League tournament last season (3/1/22). The win gave RMU their first ever win in the conference tournament. Four Colonials were in double-figures, led by Sol Castro who finished with a double-double, registering 16 points and 10 rebounds. Amalia knocked down four-of-five from behind the arc recording 15 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Morris chipped in 11 points while grabbing four boards, two assists, two blocks, and a steal in the victory. RMU shot 41.7 percent (10-for-24) from three-point range, while shooting 28-of-66 (42.4 percent for the contest).

Scouting the Mastodons – Purdue Fort Wayne comes to Moon Township with a 4-8 overall record and a 1-1 mark in conference action. The Mastodons are currently on a four-game losing streak, falling to No. 15 Maryland 88-51 last week (12/21). Amellia Bromenschenkel was the lone Mastodon in double figures, recording a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Bromenschenkel leads the team and sits fifth in the Horizon League averaging 14.2 points per game this season. She ranks third in the conference with a .486 shooting percentage while knocking down 21 three-pointers this season, good for fourth in the league. Shayla Sellers sits second on the team with 7.7 points per game and 4.0 boards per game. She is averaging 1.3 steals per game, while Jazzlyn Linbo ranks second in the conference with 1.4 blocks per game.

Attack The Glass – In their final non-conference game of the season against the Bonnies, the Colonials controlled the glass and secured the rebounding battle, 43-39 in the victory. RMU improves to 4-0 this season when grabbing at least 40 boards or more. The Colonials have won five consecutive games dating back to last season when reaching the 40-rebound plateau.

Cracking The Milestone – With her 11 point performance against St. Bonaventure, Dwomoh eclipsed the century mark and has 102 career points. Gedeon enters Thursday's contest just nine boards shy of 200, while Morris is just four rebounds short of 100 as she has surpassed the 200-point mark last game.
