Opening Tip
- The Robert Morris women's basketball team concludes its three-game home slate when it hosts top ranked Cleveland State on New Years Eve at the UPMC Events Center for a noon tip-off in Horizon League action.
- After a lengthy holiday break, the Colonials returned to Moon Township as they dropped a 52-41 decision to Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday evening (12/29) in conference action.
- RMU was led by sophomore guard Simone Morris who paced the Colonials with 14 points on 6-of-11 (54.5 percent) shooting from the floor. She recorded 10 of her 14 points in the second half, connecting on four-of-six shots from the field and two-of-three from the charity stripe. Morris tallied five boards, one steal, and one block in 32 minutes of action.
- Phoenix Gedeon registered her second consecutive double-double and fourth this season with 11 points and 11 boards, five of them coming on the offensive glass. Sophomore Alejandra Mastral led the team with three steals while grabbing four rebounds and junior Mackenzie Amalia collected a pair of steals and recorded four points.
- Against the Mastodons, RMU struggled on the offensive, shooting its lowest percentage from the floor this season. The Colonials shot 13-of-50 (26.0 percent) from the field and one of its season lows from behind the arc season at 2-for-11.
- During the month of December, the Colonials are allowing 62.1 points per game, with opponents converting just 37.2 percent (125-for-336) of their attempts from the field, including 31.8 percent (37-for-126) from beyond the arc.
- The Colonials hold a 6-1 record at the UPMC Events Center, dropping their first contest against Purdue Fort Wayne. Robert Morris is averaging 64.2 points per game at home and shooting just under 70.0 percent from the charity stripe.

The All-Time Series (CSU) – This will be the fifth all-time meeting between the Colonials and Vikings as RMU holds a 4-1 record in the series. The Colonials have won three-straight meetings, capturing a 68-54 victory at Cleveland State last February (2/13/22).
Sol Castro finished with 13 points and five boards, while collecting two steals. Gedeon chipped in eight points, three boards and a block in the victory. Robert Morris is averaging 62.8 points per game in the series while holding Cleveland State to just 59.3 in four games.
Scouting the Vikings – Cleveland State comes to Moon Township on a 12-game winning streak, holding a 12-1 overall record and a 3-0 mark in Horizon League action. The Vikings are coming off a 77-68 victory at Youngstown State on Thursday evening (12/29/22). Four Vikings ended in double-figures led by Deja Williams, who finished with 15 points and four boards off the bench. Destiny Leo and Amele Ngwafang registered 14 points each, while Ngwafang collected nine rebounds. Brittni Moore recorded 11 points and nine caroms as Barbara Zieniewska tallied nine points and seven rebounds for the Vikings. Leo paces Cleveland State and sits third in the Horizon League with 16.6 points per game, while sitting second in three-point percentage at 39.8 percent. Williams and Leo sit one and two in the conference in free-throw percentage, while both sit tied for third in steals per game at 1.5 per game.
Double-Double Machine
For the fourth time this season,
Phoenix Gedeon has recorded four double-doubles for the Colonials. Gedeon registered back-to-back double-doubles, collecting 13 points and 10 boards against St. Bonaventure (12/16) and 11 points and 11 rebounds against the Mastodons (12/29). Earlier this year, she registered 18 points and 12 caroms against Waynesburg (11/12) before setting a career high 19 boards at Wright State (12/2), along with 15 points.
Passing The Milestone
With her five rebounds,
Simone Morris passed the century mark in career rebounds, giving her 101. It's the seventh time this season that she has collected five or more boards in a game. Gedeon registered 11 caroms against Purdue Fort Wayne, eclipsing the 200 mark for her career, giving her a total of 202. She has recorded nine or more boards in six games this season for RMU.
