Alaina Giampietro and sophomore goaltender
Maggie Hatch were awarded monthly honors by the CHA, announced by the league office today, Tuesday afternoon.
Giampietro was also tabbed Rookie of the Week for the second time, this past week. Earning the award twice led her to being named Rookie of the Month for the month of October.
Over the weekend, the Colonials played their first conference series of the campaign, playing a two-game series in Erie, Pa.
Against Mercyhurst, Giampietro collected two goals and two assists, including her first career three-point effort in game two of the series, chipping in a point on each RMU goal to win, 3-2.
Currently, the freshmen forward out of Strongsville, Ohio, is on a four-game goal streak. Through the month of October, she produced six goals and five assists. Out of 10 games she has a point in eight of them, including a multi-point effort on three occasions.
Here 12 total points on the year (6-6—12) are currently ranked second best in the conference.
Being named Goaltender of the Month, sophomore
Maggie Hatch is awarded with her first award of the season.
Playing in four games, she picked up two wins in the crease. She recorded 31 or more saves in each of her four outings including a career-high 41 saves at Mercyhurst in the team's first CHA win of the season.
Out of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, the sophomore owns a .922 save percentage on the year and a 2.81 G.A.A.
She's made 163 saves on the year and 109 in her past three starts.
Through the 2023-24 campaign, the Colonials have earned eight awards by the CHA. Graduate defenseman Chloé Puddifant was named Defensive Player of the Week in Week 1. Sophomore forward
Morgan Giannone picked up Offensive Player of the Week honors in the first two weeks of the season. Freshman
Janelle Evans was named Rookie of the Week in Week 2 and then Giampietro won their award the following two weeks. On top of that Giampietro and Hatch were given Player of the Month plaudits.
Up next, RMU will host Syracuse for another CHA series. The first game will be played on Friday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m. and then the following day at 3:00 p.m. at the Clearview Arena.
