Moon Township, Pa. – Robert Morris sophomore midfielder
Elisa Corvalan was selected to the Chilean La Roja Femenina under 20 team earlier this month. She is one of the first Colonials in program history to be selected to train for their respective national team.
Corvalan, a native of Las Vegas, Nev., spent a week in Chile training with the Under 20 team at the Quilín Sports Complex, under the direction of interim coach Manuel González. The sophomore midfielder was put through numerous drills and skill sets where she trained with the under 20 team her first day, before being asked to train with the Chile national team for the remainder of the week. Corvalan was born in the United States but has Chilean relatives that make her eligible to defend La Roja. She is only one of two players from the United States on the under 20 roster.
"It was a really great experience," Corvalan said. "Over there they want to play fast so its more passing with one or two touches. You really have to think ahead in advance because the footwork over there was crazy and very good."
The Nevada native enjoyed a successful freshman campaign and helped the Colonials get off to their best start in program history. Corvalan finished the season with seven points, while tallying three goals and an assist. She scored her first collegiate goal for the blue and white in a 1-1 draw against Mount St. Mary's. The sophomore registered her first goal-assist game in a dominating 7-1 win over Hampton. Her seven points ranked her tied for third on the team and her three goals placed her tied for second.
"Going over there, I was a little nervous because I didn't know what to expect," Corvalan continued. "What I took away from it was you always have to improve your game. Going over there I had the mindset on what points could I bring back to better my game."
