Opening Tip
  • The Robert Morris women's basketball team returns to the UPMC Events Center for a four-game homestand as the Colonials welcome Detroit Mercy on Thursday night in Horizon League action.
  • RMU snapped a five-game losing streak over the weekend after capturing a 71-63 win at Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday afternoon.
  • Sophomore Phoenix Gedeon paced the Colonials with her 10th double-double of the season recording a career-high 23 points and 11 rebounds. She finished 8-of-15 from the floor and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.
  • Classmate Rebecca Dwomoh finished with 14 points, six rebounds, and a career-high six steals against the Mastodons. Sophomore Simone Morris was the third Colonial in double digits with 13 points and five caroms, while shooting 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
  • Sophomore center Danielle Vuletich chipped in seven points and three steals off the bench, while classmate Alejandra Mastral grabbed a career-high seven rebounds and junior Mackenzie Amalia collected three steals.
  • As a team, RMU had one of its best performances shooting from the field, finishing at 42.1 percent (24-for-57) on the afternoon. The Colonials connected on 20-of-27 foul shots (74.1 percent), while going 6-of-8 in the final 40 seconds to secure the win.
  • Defensively, RMU gave PFW problems all afternoon as they held the Mastodons to just 29.1 percent (16-of-55) from the floor and 5-of-25 (20.0percent) from behind the arc. The Colonials forced PFW into 23 turnovers and collected 16 steals during the win.

The All-Time Series (Detroit Mercy) – It'll be just the fourth time the Colonials and Titans meet on the hardwood come Thursday night, with Robert Morris holding a 2-1 record in the series. The two squads met earlier this season with the Titans capturing a 64-58 victory at Calihan Hall. Three Colonials finished in double-figures, led by Alejandra Mastral who finished with a career-high 15 points (6-for-11). She also provided a career best five steals in the loss. Junior guard Mackenzie Amalia and Danielle Vuletich each provided 10 points apiece with Amalia collecting three assists and two steals. Detroit Mercy outscored RMU 35-22 in the second and third quarter, while scoring efficiently as they posted a field goal percentage of 61.5%, and shot 50% from behind the arc. Over the last three games in the series, the Colonials are averaging 60.33 points per contest as Detroit Mercy is scoring 55.3 points per game.

Scouting The Titans – Detroit Mercy comes to Moon Township losing their last eight games and hold a 3-20 overall record behind a 1-13 mark in Horizon League action. The Titans are coming off of two nail biter losses, falling to Green Bay 56-47 and to Milwaukee 62-57. Against the Mastodons, missed opportunities down the stretch in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference for Detroit Mercy. Sophomore Emma Trawally Porta scored a team-high 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting with eight rebounds while matching a career-high five blocks. It marks the sixth time she has recorded four or more blocks in a game this season. Senior Imani McNeal added 12 points while grabbing a career-best eight rebounds. Junior Irene Murua was the third Titan to score in double-figures with 13 points and six rebounds.

Murua paces the Titans with 11.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game this season. She sits fourth in the conference in rebounding and has carded eight or more boards in 13 games this season. McNeal sits second on the team with 9.1 points per game and 3.2 caroms per contest. Detroit Mercy features the top shot blocker in the Horizon League in Emma Trawally Porta who is averaging two rejections a contest. She's totaled 43 blocks this season while grabbing 5.8 rebounds a game.

Double Vision – Sophomore forward Phoenix Gedeon recorded his second consecutive and 10th double-double of the 2022-23 season against Purdue Fort Wayne (2/4). She registered a career-high 23 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the floor and grabbed 11 rebounds. Gedeon has scored in double digits in 19 games this season and in five of the last eight contests. In the last eight games, the sophomore has carded five double-doubles, averaging 14.6 points and 9.1 boards per game.

Sticky Fingers – The Colonials have continued to turn teams over throughout the 2022-23 campaign. Over the last eight games, RMU has forced over 15.75 turnovers per contest and collecting just under eight steals per game. As a team, the Colonials sit second in the conference in forcing 17.8 turnovers a game. In 14 conference games, Alejandra Mastral and Mackenzie Amalia have combined for 41 steals with Mastral leading the way with 21. RMU collected 16 steals against the Mastodons which was the second highest total this season.
