Moon Township, Pa. – A total of four student-athletes from the RMU softball team earned 2023 Valeo Horizon League All-Academic Team plaudits Friday. Named to the Valeo #HLSB All-Academic Team was junior
Jane Garver, sophomore
Anna Resnik and fifth-year
Dana Vatakis. In addition, junior
Julia Ehrman earned honorable mention accolades.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have participated in 50 percent of the team's overall games, including 20 percent for pitchers, completed at least one year at a member institution and own a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale. Honorable mention is for student-athletes who receive at least 25 percent of votes but did not make the #HLSB All-Academic Team, which is selected by Horizon League Faculty Athletic Representatives.
Garver, a native of Ligonier, Pa., and an organizational leadership major, has maintained a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA. In 21 appearances from the circle in 2023, Garver owns a record of 6-3 with 64 strikeouts in 69.1 innings to go along with an earned run average (ERA) of 3.13. She's been even better against #HLSB foes, owning a 3-1 record in eight games with 36 strikeouts and a 2.79 ERA.
Vatakis is an early childhood & special education major who has posted a 3.91 GPA. She enters the final weekend of the 2023 regular season leading the Horizon League in saves (3) while ranking second in ERA (2.36) and opposing batting average (.212). Vatakis, a native of Monessen, Pa., has amassed 40 career victories from the circle with a 3.15 ERA in logging 550.2 innings during her tenure at RMU.
Resnik, an engineering major with a 3.96 GPA and a native of Elizabeth, Pa., has produced a .265/.327/.425 slash line and is one of three Colonials to have started each of RMU's 42 games during the 2023 season. She reached basely safely in 19 consecutive games earlier during the 2023 season, the longest stretch by a student-athlete for the Colonials, and ranks sixth in #HLSB in on-base percentage.
Ehrman earns honorable mention honors as biology major who has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.94. In 40 games during the 2023 campaign, Ehrman has scored 12 runs for the Colonials, stolen eight bases and owns a .980 fielding percentage thanks to just one miscue in 49 total chances.

2023 regular season with a three-game series @ Cleveland State. The Colonials and Vikings open the series this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. from Viking Field and also play a doubleheader Saturday, May 6, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
