BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman forward
Alaina Giampietro was tabbed CHA Rookie of the Week, announced today by the league office.
This is her fourth career weekly award and sixth total honor in the 2023-24 season. Back in October, she was named the CHA Rookie of the Month and at the national level, named the Hockey Commissioners Association's Rookie of the Month.
From Strongsville, Ohio, she scored two goals in each game over the weekend at RIT, totaling four. In Friday's contest, she scored her third game-winning goal of the season and first overtime winner, leading RMU to a 3-2 victory.
Now up to 15 goals this season, she's tied for second nationally in goals (15) and ranks sixth nationally in points (24) among NCAA rookies. In both statistics, she ranks first on the Colonials in those categories.
This is RMU's 13th conference award of the season:
Up next, RMU will return home to face Penn State for their final home series of the season. The two-game set is scheduled for February 9-10. Friday night's contest will be RMU Women's Hockey's Pink Game. The first 500 fans will receive a pink headband sponsored by UPMC. Saturday's meeting will be Senior Day.
