Sydney Riker was tabbed Mid-American Conference (MAC) Defensive Player of the Week following her performance against Queens, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Riker, a native of Vernon, N.J., enjoyed a career day against Queens on Friday afternoon (3/8). She registered a career-high 16 saves on 31 shots faced, with 24 coming on goal. Riker also tallied a game-high five ground balls against the Royals to help out the Colonials defensive efforts. The junior goalie shut out Queens in the first quarter while accumulating five saves as RMU jumped out to the early lead. Riker also secured her first win as a Colonial starting goalie against Queens in her seventh career start.
Riker currently sits fourth in the conference in saves per game as she averages 7.86 stops per contest with 55 saves total. She also ranks eighth in save percentage as she goes into Tuesday's contest with a .393 save percentage. This is the first conference honor that the Colonials have received since the start of the season.
