RMU Volleyball Falls to IU Indy

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.  –  Robert Morris (6-11, 2-4 HL) dropped a 3-1 decision to IU Indy (10-8, 4-2 HL) on Friday night at the UPMC Events Center. The Jaguars won by set scores of 25-18, 19-25, 25-20, and 25-21.
 
The Colonials saw two standout individual performances. Libero Jasmine Purakal tied her career-high with a match-best 31 digs and Layla Todd set a new career-high with 16 kills to lead all players. Jocelyn Jourdan tallied 14 kills, and setter Kaitlyn Brown recorded 43 assists and eight digs. Azra Eric led the team at the net with three total blocks.
 
Set 1: IU Indy 25, Robert Morris 18
The Jaguars started the match on fire, jumping out to an 11-0 lead. Robert Morris fought back to close the gap to 23-17, but the early deficit was too large to overcome. IU Indy hit .364 in the set with 18 kills to take the early lead.
 
Set 2: Robert Morris 25, IU Indy 19
The Colonials bounced back to even the match in a set that was their strongest of the night. After seven early ties, RMU used a 3-0 run to take an 11-8 lead. They never trailed again, capitalizing on a struggling IU Indy offense that was held to a .026 hitting percentage with 10 attack errors. The Colonials recorded three team blocks in the frame and closed the set 25-19.
 
Set 3: IU Indy 25, Robert Morris 20
IU Indy regained control in the third set. After RMU took an early 4-2 lead, the Jaguars went on a 6-0 run to go up 8-4. Later in the set, with the score 13-12, IU Indy used a 5-0 run, highlighted by two service aces from Ninah Miranda, to create a comfortable 18-12 cushion and cruise to the win.
 
Set 4: IU Indy 25, Robert Morris 21
The final set was the most competitive, featuring 13 ties and six lead changes. RMU held an 11-7 advantage before IU Indy responded with a 5-0 run to take a 12-11 lead. With the score tied 16-16, the Jaguars embarked on another decisive 5-0 run to go ahead 21-16. The match ended on an RMU attack error, giving IU Indy the 25-21 set win and the 3-1 match victory
 
RMU returns to the UPMC Events Center tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. As part of Alumni Weekend, former Colonials will be recognized at the conclusion of tomorrow's match.
