MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's soccer team returns home to the North Athletic Complex this weekend, hosting Cleveland State in a key Horizon League matchup on Saturday, October 11 at 3:00 PM. Live stats will be available for the contest.
RMU LATELY
RMU (4-2-4, 2-0-2 #HLMSOC) enters the weekend unbeaten in conference play and coming off a 2-1 victory over IU Indy earlier this week at the NAC. Sophomore
Jack Bejarano opened the scoring with his second goal of the season, assisted by
Anass Hadran, before
Kosi Udeh delivered the game-winner in the 77th minute. The deciding tally was set up by
Victor Thompson and
Victor Koah.
Through 10 games, freshman
Royie Rahamim continues to pace the Colonials with four goals and 10 points. Bejarano has climbed into second on the team with seven points (2G, 3A), while Hadran and
Jaxson Lee share the team lead in assists with three apiece. On the back line,
Kevin Gorbell has been a model of consistency, leading the team with 875 minutes played while also contributing a goal and two assists.
In net,
Josh Lane has started all 10 matches and has been among the Horizon League's top goalkeepers. The sophomore owns four wins, four clean sheets, and 37 saves with a .771 save percentage. Lane currently ranks tied for first in the conference in shutouts, third in goals-against average (1.11), and third in save percentage.
THE TABLE
The Colonials enter the weekend tied atop the Horizon League standings with Purdue Fort Wayne and Cleveland State, each sporting identical 2-0-2 conference records. RMU will be looking to separate itself from the pack, while PFW takes on sixth-place IU Indy on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
ALL-TIME VS. CLEVELAND STATE
Saturday marks the 23rd meeting between the programs, with Cleveland State holding a 15-7 edge in the all-time series dating back to 1992. The two sides met in last year's regular-season finale, where RMU outshot the Vikings 19-10 but fell, 3-2. Udeh scored his fifth goal of the season in that match, assisted by Thompson. The previous year, RMU earned a 1-0 win in Moon Township, with assists from Hadran and Afawubo on the game-winner.
SCOUTING THE VIKINGS
Cleveland State (4-2-4, 2-0-2 #HLMSOC) visits Moon Township riding a six-game unbeaten streak and three straight wins. In Horizon League play, the Vikings have defeated Oakland and Wright State while drawing against Northern Kentucky and Milwaukee.
Sophomore forward Matteo Correia leads CSU in goals (3) and points (7), while junior Peleg Armendariz also has three goals. Senior Josip Rimac tops the team with four assists. Defenders Lennart Heck and Uros Jevtic have logged every minute this season, anchoring a back line that's conceded just 10 goals in 10 matches. Graduate goalkeeper Ryan Poling has also played every minute, earning four wins, three shutouts, and 30 saves with a .750 save percentage.
Last fall, the Vikings finished 7-7-3 overall and 4-4-1 in Horizon League play, qualifying for the postseason before falling to Green Bay, 3-1, in the quarterfinals.
