MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (IWLCA.org) - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) is proud to announce that
Renee Miller, Assistant Coach at Robert Morris University, and Kristen Nicholson, Head Coach at Kutztown University, have been selected as the 2025 recipients of the Kristina Quigley Memorial Scholarship.
This award honors former Seton Hill Head Coach Kristina Quigley, who tragically passed away in 2013 in a bus accident while traveling with her team. The scholarship celebrates her lasting impact on the women's lacrosse community and her deep commitment to balancing coaching excellence with family and personal connection.
"Coach Quigley had a profound impact on my life, both personally and professionally," shared Miller. "She held my teammates and me to the highest standards and expected us to reflect those values in every area of our lives. While she was tough on us, she also nurtured and loved us deeply. Her greatest desire was for us to succeed, and she consistently pushed us to become the best versions of ourselves."
Miller's bond with Quigley adds special meaning to the honor. Now in her second season with RMU, she transitioned from the administrative side of collegiate athletics to coaching, driven by the lessons and inspiration she gained from Quigley. "I strive to carry forward those same values," Miller said. "I'm passionate about helping our student-athletes grow in their skills and love for the game while also preparing them for success beyond college. My family fuels me every day to be better for the women of RMU lacrosse—I am who I am today because of my husband, daughter, and Coach Quigley."
Nicholson, now in her fifth season at the helm of Kutztown University women's lacrosse and with more than 11 years of coaching experience, echoed similar sentiments about the balance between family and career. "Lacrosse has given me far more than a career—it's given me a life filled with purpose, love, and connection. This game led me to my husband, the father of our son Gavin, and to a community of lifelong friends who have become like family."
"Receiving the Kristina Quigley Scholarship is an incredible honor for me and my family," Nicholson added. "It's a gift of time, transforming what is usually time apart into a memory together that we'll never forget. This scholarship allows me to bring together the two worlds I care most about—my family and my profession. Most importantly, it's a way to honor Kristina Quigley's legacy."
The Kristina Quigley Scholarship was created to honor Quigley's passion, commitment, and values. The award supports travel for the recipient's family to attend the IWLCA Annual Meeting, acknowledging the sacrifices coaches and their families make throughout the season. The opportunity to bring family to this professional gathering reflects the very spirit of Kristina Quigley.
The 2025 IWLCA Convention will take place November 19–21 at the Tradewinds Resort in St. Petersburg, Florida. Miller will attend with her husband, Chris, and their daughter, Reese, while Nicholson will be joined by her husband and son.
