MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's basketball team
is gearing up for its Home Opener against the Akron Zips on Friday night at the UPMC Events Center. The contest is scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. ET. Fans can catch the game live on ESPN+.
RMU LATELY
RMU opened the season with a strong showing at UIC, defeating the Flames 78-83 on Monday night in Chicago. As a team, RMU shot 53% from the floor with 46 of their 78 points coming in the paint. With that win, RMU has now won all three matchups against the Flames dating back to Jan. 16, 2022. Transfer
Aislin Malcolm made an immediate impact for the Colonials in her debut, dropping 26 points along with five rebounds.
SCOUTING AKRON
Akron began its 2025-26 campaign with an 87-63 loss to South Alabama on the road on Monday night. Against the Jaguars, Akron shot 41% as a team and was led by 5-11 freshman guard/forward Monique Mitchell, who recorded 21 points in her college debut for the Zips. In the matchup, Akron turned the ball over 21 times, with the Jaguars getting 27 points off turnovers.
RMU AND AKRON HISTORY
RMU and Akron have met 25 times since the 1980s. Akron currently has a 19-6 series advantage over the Colonials. In their last meeting, RMU took the contest 59-53 back on Nov. 13, 2024, in Akron.
Noa Givon led the Colonials in that match, recording 16 points along with six rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
