MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Following the holiday break, the Colonials are gearing up for Horizon League action as RMU (9-2, 2-0 HL) welcomes the Oakland Golden Grizzlies (3-9, 0-2 HL) to the UPMC Events Center on Monday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on SportsNet Pittsburgh.
RMU LATELY
RMU closed out its non-conference schedule with a big 50-point win over Point Park back on Dec. 20, marking the Colonials' biggest win since 2023 when RMU beat Penn State Beaver 89-39. The freshman duo of
Dania McClain and
Layke Fields each recorded a double-double in the contest, with McClain scoring 17 points and pulling down 10 boards while Fields had 16 points and 10 boards. On the glass, the Colonials dominated the Pioneers with a 65-39 advantage.
Jennica Suggs led the Colonials with a career high 11 boards. RMU's 65 rebounds were the second most in a single game, behind the Colonials' 67 rebounds against West Virginia Wesleyan back in 2015.
GOING FOR 10
The Colonials have been perfect to begin the season at home, with RMU 5-0 at the UPMC Events Center. The Colonials are currently on a nine-game win streak at home, with their last loss at the UPMC Events Center coming on Jan. 31, 2025, when they fell 64-53 to Purdue Fort Wayne.
SCOUTING OAKLAND
Oakland is off to a 3-9 start to the season under the direction of Keisha Newell, who is in her first year at the helm for the Golden Grizzlies. In Horizon League action, Oakland is 0-2, dropping games to Wright State (61-57) and Cleveland State (72-55). Most recently, the Golden Grizzlies fell to Michigan 97-54 before the holiday break. Oakland is led by Cali Denson, who is averaging 12.2 PPG and is 24-for-60 from beyond the arc on the season. On the glass, Layla Gold is leading Oakland with 4.9 RPG.

This meeting will be the 11
th contest between the pair since the Colonials joined the Horizon League in 2020. Oakland has a 7-3 advantage in the series over RMU. The Colonials took the last matchup over the Golden Grizzlies 73-63 on the road, with
Noa Givon scoring 10 points and two steals and
Jada Lee contributing with nine points. At home against Oakland, the Colonials are 2-2.
