MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU women's basketball is back in action on Sunday afternoon as the Colonials travel to Highland Heights, Kentucky, to take on Northern Kentucky in RMU's Horizon League Opener. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Truist Arena and can be streamed live on ESPN+.
RMU LATELY
RMU got back in the win column with a close 73-71 win over the Lakers in Erie on Wednesday morning.
Layke Fields led the Colonials with a career-high 24 points along with six rebounds.
Myriam Traore nearly recorded a double-double, scoring 14 points along with a team-high nine rebounds and four assists.
Aislin Malcolm and
Bailey Kuhns were the other two Colonials to reach double-digit figures, with each picking up 10 points in the contest. RMU shot 55.6% from the floor, which included scoring 48 points in the paint. On the glass, RMU dominated the Lakers, pulling down 36 rebounds to the Lakers' 16.
FIELDS' BREAKOUT PERFORMANCE PUSHES RMU TO VICTORY
Freshman
Layke Fields had the best game of her short career at RMU. The Pennsylvania native and Kennedy Catholic alum dropped 24 points against the Lakers, going 11-for-17 from the floor in 22 minutes played. Along with her high-scoring performance, Fields pulled down six rebounds and recorded a block. Fields' previous career-high was six points at Saint Francis. Through seven games, Fields has appeared in every game for the Colonials off the bench.
SCOUTING NORTHERN KENTUCKY
The Norse are currently 3-7 to start the year and began Horizon League conference play with a 70-60 loss to Green Bay at home. NKU is led by freshman guard Karina Bystry who is averaging 10.8 PPG along with 3.1 RPG. As a team, NKU is averaging 65.5 PPG and is shooting 38.5% from the floor. On the glass, the Norse are pulling down 34.5 RPG while opponents are grabbing 36.6.

Robert Morris and Northern Kentucky are set to meet for the 16
th time with Northern Kentucky having a 12-3 series advantage over the Colonials. On the road against NKU, RMU is 1-6. The pair met most recently last year in the Barbasol Horizon League Championship quarterfinal round, where the Colonials won 70-57 to advance to the Horizon League semifinals for the first time in program history.
