RMU Women's Hockey Travels to Syracuse for AHA Quarterfinals

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's hockey team is set to begin its 2025 Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) playoff run with a quarterfinal matchup against Syracuse on Saturday, February 22, at 3:00 PM. The game will be streamed live on FloHockey.

REGULAR SEASON REVIEW
RMU wrapped up the regular season with an 8-23-3 overall record and a 2-16-2 mark in AHA play. Leading the offensive efforts this season, Morgan Giannone and Veronica Bac have each tallied a team-high eight goals, with Giannone also posting 11 assists for a team-best 19 points. Bac has been a force on the power play, netting a team-high four goals with the advantage, while Calli Arnold remains the only Colonial with a shorthanded goal this season. Mya Neugent has contributed two game-winning goals, adding to the team's clutch performances.

On the defensive end, Allyson Hebert has led the nation in blocked shots with 105 this season, surpassing the 200-career block milestone last weekend against Lindenwood. Between the pipes, Maggie Hatch has started 25 games, securing seven wins, two shutouts, and posting a .910 save percentage.

MILESTONE WATCH
As the postseason begins, several Colonials are nearing personal milestones. Kaitlyn Schooley is just one blocked shot away from 100 in her career, while Catriona Crarer who recently reached 50 career blocks, is also eight faceoff wins away from hitting 400. This season, Crarer leads RMU in faceoff wins with 147.

IRONWOMEN
A core group of players has provided consistency throughout the season, with Giannone, Bac, Neugent, Hebert, Emma Goding, Mya Kearns, and Laura Eustace all appearing in each of RMU's 34 games.

ALL-TIME VS. SYRACUSE
The Colonials hold a slight edge in the all-time series against Syracuse, 28-27-9 (.508), dating back to 2008. On the road, RMU is 14-14-2 when facing the Orange and has recorded nine shutouts in the series.

This season, Neugent and Giannone have both registered multiple points against Syracuse, while Crarer and Lindsey Smolen have each found the back of the net in matchups against their conference rival.

SCOUTING THE ORANGE
Syracuse enters the postseason as the No. 3 seed with a 13-21-0 overall record and 11-9-0 mark in AHA play, closing out the regular season with six wins in their last seven games. Graduate forward Bryn Saarela leads the team in goals (16), power-play goals (5), game-winners (3), and points (28), while sophomore Jackson Kinsler has dished out a team-high 15 assists. Defensively, freshman Jessica Cheung has registered 70 blocked shots, while graduate goaltender Allie Kelley has started all but one game this season, surpassing 1,000 saves with a .927 save percentage, 12 wins, and three shutouts.

PLAYOFF BRACKET
A win against Syracuse would send RMU to the AHA semifinals, where they would face No. 1 seed Penn State in a best-of-three series from February 28 to March 2.
