Colonials Set to Battle Green Bay in Barbasol Horizon League Basketball Championship Semifinals

RMU Game Notes 3/10

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – RMU women's basketball continues their postseason journey as they travel to Indianapolis for the Barbasol Horizon League Championships as they'll battle Green Bay on Monday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and can be seen live on ESPN+.

RMU LATELY
The Colonials opened the Barbasol Horizon League Womens Championship with a quarterfinal round win over Northern Kentucky, 73-57 on Thursday evening at the UPMC Events Center. Noa Givon had her best offensive game of her career, leading RMU with 23 points to go along with two rebounds and two assists. Mya Murray finished in double digits for RMU as she had 11 points with a team-high four blocks and two steals. Raissa Nsabua and Isys Grady each had nine points while Nsabua had a team-high seven rebounds. With RMU's win over Northern Kentucky it marked their first quarterfinal win since joining the Horizon League in 2020. This Colonials team was picked to finish in 11th place in the Horizon League but have now moved onto the semifinals for the first time in program history. This mark shows to be more impressive as RMU has fielded the lineup with the least number of minutes played together in the whole conference. The Colonials currently rank third in the Horizon League in team defensive rebounds with RMU posting an average of 25.7 defensive boards in 30 games played.

HOW WE GOT HERE
The Colonials have been one of the best stories in the Horizon League over the last months as the Colonials own a 9-3 conference record since January 16. RMU was 1-7 in conference play before they went on a surge that resulted them in becoming the fourth seed in the Barbasol Horizon League Championships. Over that same stretch, the RMU defense has been stout allowing less than 60 points in seven of their last nine wins.

RMU AND GREEN BAY HISTORY
The Colonials have yet been able to beat Green Bay in eight tries since joining the conference in 2020. The main component for the Colonials has been the ability to not score points as RMU has only averaged 44 points in the eight matchups against the Phoenix.

RMU AND GREEN BAY LAST TIME OUT
In the last matchup, Green Bay defeated RMU 71-39, thanks in large part to dominant second and third quarters of play. In this contest, RMU held a 15-13 lead at the end of the first quarter however the Phoenix went on to outscore the Colonials 48-9 over the next two quarters

POSTSEASON JOURNEY
Head Coach Chandler McCabe spoke to the media after the quarterfinal and had this to say about where saw the turning point with this team, " We were one in seven, there were two adjustments. It was toughness and play harder. And you used both of those words, and you could tell right? So now we're 9-3 in the last 12 games. So that was the huge adjustment we do have, you know, some unfinished business to take care of coming up next too."

McCabe added why it's important for her team to play their style of basketball no matter what," We talked about this pre-game. You know, as much as we do scout and we do because we're really good defensive team. It's about us in what we do in RMU basketball, what we've been teaching since, since June. So, you know, we still don't know who our opponent is, and good luck to all the teams that are playing. But it doesn't matter, because we're going to play RMU basketball."
