Colonials, Mastodons Set for Horizon League Rematch

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's basketball team is gearing up for the second game of its three-game road stretch, a trip to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to take on Purdue Fort Wayne in the second meeting of the season between the teams. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN+. Live stats can be followed on SIDEARM.
 
RMU LATELY
The Colonials are coming off a dominating win over Wright State on Saturday afternoon, as RMU beat the Raiders 74-53 in Dayton. In the win, the duo of Myriam Traore and Ava Leroux powered the Colonials to the big win, with Traore dropping a game-high 22 points while Leroux scored a career-high 19 points. Traore also went an impressive 6-for-9 from deep while Leroux just nearly missed a double-double, pulling down a team-leading eight rebounds. Eva Levingston was the only other Colonial to score in double-digits, with the Junior scoring 12.
 
LEROUX ON A ROLL
Ava Leroux, a Redshirt Sophomore from South Fayette, Pennsylvania, has provided a huge spark to the Colonials lately, averaging 15.5 points per game, helping lead the Colonials to back-to-back wins. Averaging 20.2 minutes per game in the Colonials' last two, Leroux has averaged 58.8% shooting from the floor, along with eight rebounds per game on average. Against Youngstown, Leroux scored 12 points along with eight rebounds, and in the win against Wright State, scored a career-high 19 points along with another eight rebounds.
 
RMU AND PFW HISTORY
Tuesday's meeting between the two teams will be the 13th contest of the series, with the series being even at 6-6 following the Colonials' win earlier this season. On the road against Purdue Fort Wayne, RMU is 3-3 with its last road victory against the Mastodons coming back on February 4th, 2023, where the Colonials secured a 71-63 win in Indiana.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The pair first met this season back on January 8th, with Aislin Malcolm scoring 20 points to lead the Colonials to a key 74-64 Horizon League victory over the Mastodons at the UPMC Events Center. A big 8-0 run by RMU in the fourth quarter was key to the Colonials victory, as the run put the Colonials lead up to a game-high 16 points. Along with Malcolm, Myriam Traore was a big power for the Colonials, tying a career-high with 17 points while the pair combined for six of the team's nine made three-point baskets. RMU shot 50% in the win, going 27-for-54 from the floor.
 
SCOUTING PURDUE FORT WAYNE
Purdue Fort Wayne will defend the Gates Sports Center with a 13-8 overall record and a 7-4 conference record. The Mastodons are currently on a two-game win streak and have been nearly perfect at home, with a 9-1 record on their home court. The Mastodons most recently picked up a huge 97-91 overtime win over Northern Kentucky in Highland Heights on Saturday afternoon.
 
Offensively, Purdue Fort Wayne is ranked second in the conference as the Mastodons are averaging 71.0 points per game, led by Alana Nelson, who is the league's top scorer with 17.0 points per game. Nelson is also the second-best three-point shooter behind teammate Rylee Bess. Bess is shooting 41.3% while Nelson is shooting 40.5% from beyond the arc. Both are averaging over two-made three-point field goals per game. On the glass, the Mastodons are led by Jordan Reid and Nelson, with both averaging 5.3 boards per game.
