Colonials Begin Three-Game Homestand on Thursday Night Against Purdue Fort Wayne


MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- RMU returns to the UPMC Events Center on Thursday night for a 6:00 p.m. matchup with the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons. Coming into the match, RMU is 10-4 overall and 3-2 in the Horizon League, while the Mastodons are 11-5 overall and 5-1 in Horizon League play.
 
RMU Lately
The Colonials went 1-2 over their last three matches, dropping contests to Oakland and Green Bay, while picking up a win against Milwaukee. The Colonials started the week out with a 61-58 loss at home against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. Despite a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter by the Colonials to put themselves up 58-50 with 4:41 on the clock, Oakland held RMU scoreless the rest of the contest while going on an 11-0 run to steal a 61-58 win. Bailey Kuhns recorded a huge double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Colonials.
 
RMU began a two-game road trip to Wisconsin, opening up the trip with a 62-52 win over Milwaukee on Friday night. Against the Panthers, RMU shot 38.9% on the night, going 21-for-54 from the floor while holding a slim 35-31 advantage on the glass. Aislin Malcolm led all scorers with 18 points on the night, including going 6-for-8 from the free-throw stripe. Malcolm also recorded four rebounds and two assists in the win. Myriam Traore also notched her first Colonial double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in 34 minutes of action, along with three steals and an assist. Jada Lee (11) and Bailey Kuhns (10) were the other Colonials to score in double-digits on the night.
 
The Colonials closed out the week with a 64-43 loss to conference leader Green Bay on Sunday afternoon. In the loss, Noa Givon led the Colonials with 13 points in 23 minutes. Givon went 5-for-9 from the field for 55.6% shooting on the afternoon, while going a perfect 2-for-2 from deep. Myriam Traore was the next highest scorer for the Colonials with seven points while also pulling down a team-high seven rebounds to lead on the glass. RMU was held to just 29.1% shooting from the floor while being out-rebounded by the Phoenix 42-35.
 
Scouting PFW
The Mastodons come into the matchup with an 11-5 overall record and a 5-1 record in Horizon League, most recently picking up a big 71-46 over Horizon League rival IU Indy on Monday night. Against the Jaguars, Alana Nelson led all scorers with 15 points. Lili Krasovec had 12, while Nika Lokica and Rylee Bess added 11 each. On the glass, the Mastodons crushed IU Indy 45-29 in the rebounding category. On the season, Nelson currently leads the Horizon League in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game in 16 games played for the Mastodons. Nelson also leads the Horizon League in 3-point field goal percentage (43.2%) and 3-point field goals per game (2.4) while being third in the league for field goal percentage (53.1%). Purdue Fort Wayne's offense is ranked second in the Horizon League, averaging 71.7 points per game. On the glass, Purdue is ranked 11th in the Horizon League, averaging 33.9 rebounds per game, led by Jordan Reid, who is averaging 5.6 rebounds per game with 89 on the season.
 
The Mastodons are led by fifth-year head coach Maria Marchesano, who has led Purdue Fort Wayne to an 82-67 record during her tenure. Last season, Marchesano was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year after the Mastodons finished the 2024-25 regular season with a 23-7 record and an 18-2 mark in Horizon League play to finish as the regular season runners-up. Marchesano was the first Mastodon women's basketball coach to be named Coach of the Year in program history and marked her third Coach of the Year award after earning the 2012 Division II Independent Coach of the Year honor and the 2021 Northeast Conference Coach of the Year.
 
RMU and PFW History
Robert Morris is looking to even the series up 6-6 in the 12th matchup between the pair after losing the last four to the Mastodons dating back to Jan. 4th, 2024. At home, the Colonials are 2-3 against Purdue Fort Wayne, with their last win at home coming back on March 1st, 2022, where the Colonials beat Purdue Fort Wayne 70-56. The duo last met on Jan. 31, 2025, with the Mastodons getting a 63-54 win in Moon Township. In the matchup, a big 26-point fourth quarter gave the Mastodons the win after the teams went into the fourth quarter tied 37-37. The pair of Noa Givon and Jada Lee each recorded eight points, while Lee added in four assists. The matchup saw the score tied eight times and 15 lead changes.
