Women's Basketball Returns Home to Host Cleveland State

MOON TOWNSHIP – The Colonials are coming home as the RMU women's basketball team is scheduled to host Cleveland State for a Saturday afternoon Horizon League matchup. The matchup is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the UPMC Events Center and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
RMU LATELY
The Colonials return to the UPMC Events Center to defend their home court with a 16-9 overall record and a 9-7 record in conference play after dropping their last matchup to Youngstown State 69-62 in overtime.
 
Against the Penguins, RMU got a clutch layup from Bailey Kuhns with 0.4 seconds on the clock to give the Colonials a 53-51 lead before a buzzer-beating layup from Youngstown State's Sophia Gregory sent the game to overtime, where the Penguins went on to outscore the Colonials 16-9 to secure the 69-62 win.
 
In the contest, Myriam Traore led RMU's offense with a team-high 20 points while Aislin Malcolm and Bailey Kuhns each recorded 13. Kuhns also led on the glass, recording seven boards on the night. The Colonials shot 40.7%, going 24-for-59 from the floor, while Youngstown State shot 34.4%. On the glass, the teams tied, with both teams recording 40 rebounds.
 
RMU AND CSU HISTORY
Saturday will mark the 16th meeting between the two teams, with Cleveland State winning the all-time series 10-5, having won the last seven of 10 matchups. At home, the Colonials are 1-6 against the Vikings, with the last home win against Cleveland State coming back in 2021 when the Colonials won 63-55.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
The pair met earlier this season in Cleveland, with the Vikings coming away with the 68-61 win at home over the Colonials.
 
RMU had three players score in double-digits, with Myriam Traore leading the way with 18 points while also recording six rebounds, two steals, one block, and one assist. Aislin Malcolm (14) and Levingston (10) were the other double-digit scorers for the Colonials. Malcolm also recorded four assists and two rebounds, while Levingston pulled down four boards and recorded three steals and one assist. Ava Leroux led the Colonials on the glass, pulling down seven rebounds.
 
The Colonials outshot Cleveland State, going 44% from the floor compared to the Vikings 36.4%. Both teams knocked down six three-point baskets while RMU also nearly went perfect from the free-throw line, shooting 91.7%. Cleveland State won the battle on the glass, out-rebounding RMU 36-30.
 
SCOUTING CSU
Cleveland State will head to Moon Township with a 19-8 overall record and a 9-7 mark in the Horizon League after securing a huge 83-82 overtime win over Green Bay, which had not lost a Horizon League matchup until Wednesday night. The Vikings had three players finish with 20-point performances, led by Colbi Maples with 26. Izabella Zingaro added 23 points while Macey Fegan chipped in with 21. The Vikings also outshot Green Bay, shooting 45.8% while the Phoenix shot 44.1%.
 
In Horizon League statistics, the Vikings' offense is ranked first, with Cleveland State averaging 70.8 points. Three Vikings are in the top-10 in scoring, with Zingaro ranked second with 16.3 points per game, while Maples is ranked third with 15.0 points per game. Rounding out the top-10 scorers for the Vikings is Jada Leonard, who is averaging 12.6. The Vikings are also ranked 10th in the country in free throws made per game, with 16.41.
