One of two student-athletes to garner the Chick-fil-A Robinson RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week honor for Feb. 16, 2022, is senior pitcher Dana Vatakis of the softball team. In a 2-0 victory @ North Carolina A&T (2/11) that opened the 2022 season for the Colonials as part of the North Carolina A&T / Howard Round Robin, Vatakis, a native of Monessen, Pa., allowed just four hits and a pair of walks in eight innings of work. She struck out eight in the complete game victory in earning her third consecutive Opening Day start. Over the last three seasons on Opening Day, Vatakis has posted a 2-1 record from the circle, allowing 12 hits and just three free passes in 19 innings of work while striking out 13 and fashioning an earned run average (ERA) of 0.74.
