Moon Township, Pa.?Joe Di Buono (2002-04), a former Robert Morris University men's soccer standout, signed a three-year contract with the Milwaukee Wave of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Di Buono has played for three professional teams since finishing his career at Robert Morris and is the 16th player in team history to sign a professional contract.
Milwaukee has won the MISL Championship four times ? 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2005. A charter member of the league, the Wave have been in existence since 1984 and now play at U.S. Cellular Arena. The team's 30-game schedule opens October 27, when the Wave take on the Baltimore Blast.
Most recently, Di Buono played for Trois-Rivieres Attak (Canadian Soccer League), the reserve squad for the Montreal Impact of the First Division of the United Soccer Leagues. Di Buono played in all 12 games and had eight starts for the Attak. He scored three goals for Trois-Rivieres, who finished the regular season 10-4-8 and second in the CSL North Division.
Prior to that, he played for Polonia Warszawa of the Polish First Division. He was a starter in the midfield for the Blackshirts after joining the team in mid season.
Immediately following his graduation from Robert Morris, Di Buono became the sixth Robert Morris player since 2002 to be drafted when he was selected in the first round of the USL's College Player Draft and was the 11th overall pick, going to the Montreal Impact. He became the first Colonial to be drafted by two teams in the same year when the MISL's Cleveland franchise picked him in their 2005 draft.
As a Colonial, Di Buono was a 2004 NSCAA / adidas Mid-Atlantic Regional All-American and a team captain in 2004. He finished third in the Northeast Conference in 2004 with 17 points on six goals and five assists, scoring all of his points in the last 14 games of the season. He finished fifth in the conference in goal scoring and fourth in assists. A first team All-NEC selection, the forward was held scoreless for the first five games of the season before exploding for 17 points in the final 14 games. His best game came in a 4-2 win at Mount St. Mary's when he scored two goals and added an assist for five points.
