Moon Township, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University volleyball team knocked off Northeast Conference opponent Wagner (2-13, 0-4 NEC), 3-0 (30-17, 30-12, 30-15), Saturday night at the Charles L. Sewall Center. With the victory, the Colonials are now 12-9 on the season including 2-1 in NEC action.
The Colonials iced the game by opening game-three of the match with an 8-0 run and never looked back as they downed Wagner, never letting them break the 20-point barrier in any of the three-matches.
Freshman Amanda Graham (Melbourne, Fla. / Eau Gallie) continued to make her presence felt as one of the conference's leaders in hitting percentage. She posted a .545 hitting percentage, while tallying 12 kills on 22-attempts, committing zero errors. She also finished with one service ace, one block assist and one dig.
Also tallying double-digit kills was junior Cassie Lee (Vista, Calif. / Vista) with 10. Lee also notched one dig and one block assist. Jennifer Stambaugh (Union Bridge, Md. / Francis Scott Key) recorded nine kills, six digs, three service aces and one block assist.
Senior Tawnya Storino (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) and junior Melissa Thompson (Marysville, Wash. / Marysville Pilchuck) led the way in the assist department for RMU. Storino dished out a match high 21 assists, while Thompson recorded seven assists.
Junior Alaina Gibson (Muncie, Ind. / Muncie Burris) tallied a match high 19 digs and five service aces, along with one assist.
RMU tallied 44 kills and Wagner finished with 17. The Colonials recorded a .320 hitting percentage and held the Seahawks to a .000 hitting percentage.
The Colonials return to action Saturday, October 27 as they travel to Central Conn. State for a 3:00 p.m. match.
