INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Redshirt junior defensive specialist/libero
Jasmine Purakal was named #HLVB Defensive Player of the Year and All-League First Team, while junior outside hitter
Jocelyn Jourdan earned All-League Second Team Honors, the league office announced on Thursday afternoon.
Purakal had a big year for the Colonials, leading the Horizon League in digs, averaging 5.90 per set in conference play and 5.24 digs per set overall. In Horizon League action, Purakal has recorded 407 digs, with a total of 582 on the season to lead the conference. Against Northern Kentucky, Purakal recorded a league-high 38 digs to lead the conference in most digs in a single game this season. Along with her 582 digs, Purakal notched 105 assists and 20 service aces in 108 sets played for the Colonials this season and earned Horizon League POW honors back on Sept. 22.
Jourdan provided a huge spark to the Colonial offense this season, leading RMU with 391 kills on the season while also being second on the team in digs in 105 sets played. The junior was ranked second in the conference in conference-only statistics, averaging 4.03 kills per set while ranking fourth in the league in overall matches with 3.65 kills per set. 274 of her kills came in conference play. She was also ranked top-25 in the league in multiple categories in conference-only statistics. Jourdan was 20
th in the conference in digs (2.61 per set) and 4
th in the conference in points (3.99 per set). On Sept. 29, Jourdan earned Horizon League POW honors.
