Jaszka Named Inaugural NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Moon Township, Pa. - Senior opposite Lisa Jaszka (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) of the Robert Morris University volleyball team earned the inaugural Northeast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year Wednesday, as announced by the league. The award, sponsored by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives, is bestowed upon the NEC male and female student-athlete who has exhausted his or her eligibility, graduated and has posted the highest grade point average at the conclusion of the academic year. A pair of St. Francis (N.Y.) water polo team members, Andrija Vrdoljak and Moran Stern, were honored as the co-male winners.

Jaszka, a four-year letterwinner for the Colonials, appeared in 316 career games for Robert Morris, compiling 265 kills, 484 digs and 79 service aces. She led RMU with 50 service aces in 2006, a total that ranks tied for fifth in the program's single-season record book. An elementary education major, Jaszka was a two-time member of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America District II Volleyball Team, and in April of 2007 she was honored with the Presidential Scholar-Athlete Award at the 13th annual Robert Morris University All-Sports Banquet.

In addition, a total of 25 Colonial student-athletes were named to the inaugural NEC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, which honors individuals with GPAs of 3.75 or higher. Of the 196 student-athletes from the Northeast Conference to make the Commissioner's Honor Roll, the 25 by Robert Morris was the most of any NEC institution.
