Moon Township, Pa. / North Atlhetic Complex ? The Robert Morris University men's soccer fought back from a 2-0 deficit only to see St. Francis (N.Y.) score the gamewinning goal in the 84th minute of a Northeast Conference match-up at North Athletic Complex Friday afternoon. The 3-2 loss drops the Colonials mark to 2-9-2 on the year and 0-2-1 in conference play. The Terriers improve to 10-1-1 and 3-0 in the conference.
John Baptiste Joseph settled the ball 40 yards from net and cut across the field. He played a ball back to the left side of the box where Jeverton De Lorenzi ran onto it. De Lorenzi touched past charging Colonials keeper Matt Felice (Mississauga, Ontario / Phillip Pocock) and then into the empty net.
The Terriers stretched the margin to 2-0 in the 59th minute when Baptiste Joseph set up another teammate on a cross from the left corner. This time Nick Baum was on the end of the cross, heading to ball inside the far post.
Robert Morris got on the board in the 67th minute. A seemingly harmless indirect kick from midfield turned dangerous when freshman Max Shinsky (York, Pa. / West York Area) played it into the Terriers box. The ball got over the first line of defense where freshman Matt Sheibly (Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern) pounced on the first bounce and headed it past keeper Chris Antonino for the goal.
The equalizer came just 5:15 later. Senior Tyler Stanley (Kalispell, Mont. / Columbia Falls) hit sophomore David Torrance (Glasgow, Scotland / Langside College) with a short pass at the top of the box. Torrance chested the ball down and played it to junior Sean Riley (Kalispell, Mont. / Flathead) streaking into the right side of box. Riley put the ball inside the far left post, knotting the game at 2-2 in the 73rd minute.
St. Francis (N.Y.), however, would recover from the Robert Morris run with 6:42 left in regulation. A corner from the foot of Alessandro Silaco was headed from the center of the box to the far post by Javier Gonzales. Sitting alone at the far post was Terrier Anthony Matos who blasted a volley into the net to make a 3-2 game and seal the win.
Felice finished with three saves for the Colonials while Antonino stopped four shots. Robert Morris had a 15-11 advantage in shots while St. Francis (N.Y.) held a 7-3 margin in corner kicks.
The Colonials play host to Long Island this Sunday, Oct. 19, at 1:00 p.m.
