Box Score Moon Township, Pa. ? On Sunday afternoon, the Robert Morris University field hockey team honored its four graduating seniors in the last home game of the 2008 season. The Colonials were able to sneak past NEC opponent Quinnipiac by a score of 2-1 to earn their fifth victory of the season.
Robert Morris got off to a great start, as freshman Hayley Botha (Johannesburg, South Africa / St. Mary's) tallied her second goal of the season five minutes into the first period to make the score 1-0, Robert Morris. She was assisted on the goal by freshman Chantele Crow (Dauphin, Pa. / Central Dauphin).
Two minutes later, the Bobcats would tie the game at one all as Christine Grady put in an unassisted shot past Colonial goalie, Stephanie Seeley (Louisville, Ky. / Ballard).
At the 31:55 mark of the first, the Colonials reclaimed their lead when Crow found senior Maddy Carroll (Birdsboro, Pa. / Twin Valley) to push the ball past Quinnipiac goaltender, Jenna Grossman and put Robert Morris up 2-1.
In the second period Quinnipiac threatened to tie the game several times, firing off five shots in a one minute time span. However, Seeley was able to hold off the Bobcat's attack to propel Robert Morris to the win.
Overall, Seeley made five saves and Crow picked up two assists in the victory.
The Colonials picked up their fifth win of the season, the setting a new single season win record. Robert Morris (5-12-0 ; 2-5-0 NEC) will finish out the 2008 season in a NEC matchup at St. Francis (Pa.) on Friday, October 31 at 3:00 p.m.
