Moon Township, Pa. - For the second time in three weeks, a pair of Robert Morris University football players were honored by the Northeast Conference Monday, as junior safety Michael Landers (Springdale, Pa. / Springdale) was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman tight end Shadrae King (McKeesport, Pa. / McKeesport) was bestowed with NEC Rookie of the Week accolades.

Landers was instrumental in helping the Colonials post six takeaways in a 35-3 victory at Wagner (10/25) for their second straight conference victory. As well as recording six tackles, including five solo, and a pair of pass breakups, Landers forced one fumble and recovered two others.

On the first Wagner possession of the second half with Robert Morris holding a 21-3 advantage, Landers picked up a Kyle Trueblood fumble and returned it 56 yards for a touchdown to increase the Colonial lead to 28-3.

Trueblood again coughed the ball up on the next possession by the Seahawks, with Landers picking up the loose ball and racing 50 yards before being tackled at the Wagner 14-yard line. Four plays later sophomore halfback Myles Russ (Boca Raton, Fla. / West Boca) scored on a two-yard touchdown run to give the Colonials a 35-3 lead. 

On the 2008 campaign the 6'1", 210-pound Landers ranks third for Robert Morris with 55 tackles, while his four interceptions are tied for the Northeast Conference lead with Sacred Heart's Andre Isla.   

King hauled in two touchdown passes in the second quarter to bolster the Colonials to a 21-3 halftime lead. The 6'3", 205-pound tight end pulled in a 19-yard score to give Robert Morris a 14-3 advantage, and his seven-yard touchdown reception with 37 seconds left before halftime gave RMU a 21-3 lead. On the game King finished with three catches for 32 yards and two scores.  

So far this season King owns 12 catches for 203 yards, an average of 16.9 yards per catch that ranks third on the club. He also owns a team-high four touchdown catches. 

Under the guidance of head coach Joe Walton, the only coach in the 15-year history of the program, Robert Morris (3-5 overall, 2-2 NEC) looks for its second straight win Saturday when it hosts Central Connecticut State at Joe Walton Stadium for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
