Indianola, Pa. / Founders Field?The Robert Morris University men's soccer team is still in search of its first win of the 2008 season following a 3-0 loss at Pitt Sunday afternoon. The Colonials, now 0-3, have been shutout in the last two games and have just one goal on the season. Pitt improves to 2-1-1 overall.
Pitt took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute when Chris Wilcox sent a crossing pass from the right side to Ian Farnsworth, who one-timed it into the net. The goal was Farnsworth's first career and game-winning goal.
The Panthers then went up 2-0 in the 74th minute on a penalty kick by Mike McDade. The penalty kick was setup when E.J. McCormick made a move and was taken down in the penalty box. McDade fired the shot past a diving RMU goalkeeper.
Pitt added an insurance goal in the 88th minute when Wilcox controlled a clearing pass and bumped a shot past the Colonials' goalkeeper. The score was Wilcox's first career goal.
Goalkeeper Jordan Marks registered the shutout in goal after playing the full 90 minutes and totaling five saves. Senior keeper Matt Felice (Mississauga, Ontario / Phillip Pocock) made four saves, all in the first half, for the Colonials.
Pitt outshot Robert Morris 14-13 and had three corner kicks to the Colonials' one. Sophomore forward David Torrance (Glasgow, Scotland / Langside College) had four shots for the Colonials.
The Colonials had won the previous four meetings in this series. RMU returns to the pitch Friday, September 12, when they take on Western Michigan in the first round of the Pitt Invitational Tournament. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
