Moon Township, Pa.?Senior Emily Schock (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe), who just finished her senior season on the Robert Morris Unviersity women's soccer team, is one of 72 players nationwide who was invited to participate in the newly formed Women's Professional Soccer League (WPS) West Coast Combine in Chula Vista, Calif, on December 13-14. The WPS, scheduled to open play in April of 2009, will be the highest level of women's soccer in North America and features seven teams across the country.
Schock is a four-year letterwinner for Robert Morris, starting each of the last two seasons. A captain in 2008, Schock played central back for the Colonials in her junior and senior seasons after converting from her natural midfield position. In that role, she blossomed into one of the top backs in the Northeast Conference and helping the Colonials record two shutouts and a 1.63 overall goals against average.
The Latrobe, Pa., native is the only player from the NEC who was invited to participate in the combine. In addition to the players, all seven head coaches of the WPS teams have traveled to Southern California for the combine.
The WPS will hold its inaugural draft on January 16, 2009, at the Cervantes Convention Center in St. Louis, Mo. The seven teams in the league are based in Boston, Chicago, San Francisco / Oakland, New York / New Jersey, Los Angeles, St. Louis and Washington, D.C.
