Sinclair Nabs NEC Rookie of the Week Accolade

Moon Township, Pa. - Freshman quarterback Jeff Sinclair (Natrona Heights, Pa. / Highlands) of the Robert Morris University football teamed earned the first weekly honor of his career Monday, as he was tabbed the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week.

Sinclair garners the accolade after leading the Colonials to their fifth straight win to close out the 2009 season in a 23-9 victory at Monmouth (11/21). Against the Hawks, Sinclair completed 13 of his 17 passing attempts for 128 yards and two touchdowns while rushing 10 times for 47 yards.

In the fourth quarter, Sinclair tossed a pair of scoring strikes to help seal the victory for RMU. He completed a four-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Sherrod Evers (Philadelphia, Pa. / Mastbaum Area) that capped an 11-play, 84-yard drive, the second longest touchdown drive of the season for Robert Morris.

Less than two minutes later, after a Monmouth turnover, Sinclair hooked up with sophomore wide receiver Anthony Coleman (Cheltenham, Md. / St. John's College High School) for a 31-yard touchdown pass that increased the Colonial lead to 23-2 with 11:26 to play.

On the 2009 campaign, Sinclair posted a record of 5-2 as RMU's starting quarterback, completing 53.8 percent (78-for-145) of his passes for 828 yards and nine touchdowns against six interceptions. He also rushed 63 times for 128 yards and three touchdowns.

Led by Joe Walton, the only head coach in the 16-year history of the program, Robert Morris used the five-game winning streak to close out its 2009 campaign to finish with an overall record of 5-6. The Colonials posted a 5-3 record in league games, good enough to tie for third with Wagner.
