McLaughlin to Participate in NCAA Skills Challenge

Moon Township, Pa. ? March 3, 2009 ? Senior Brianne McLaughlin (Sheffield Village, Ohio / Ohio Flames) of the Robert Morris University women's hockey team was one of two goalies selected to participate as part of the Women's West Squad in the 2009 Frozen Four Skills Challenge, while teammate Kristen Miles (London Ontario, London Devillettes) was selected as an alternate for the event. The skills challenge will take place between the semifinals and the finals of the 2009 NCAA Men's Frozen Four on Friday April 10, 2009.

Initially, the NCAA received nearly 140 nominations and this number was recently reduced to 68 on Jan. 27, 2009 by the NCAA, representatives from the America Hockey Coaches Association and Bauer Hockey. The NCAA selection committee utilized a fan-based element to pick the final 32 student-athletes that would participate in the skills challenge.

McLaughlin will participate in the event alongside fellow CHA members, Wayne State's Melissa Boal and Niagara's Ashley Riggs.

McLaughlin has been an RMU standout since her freshman year and currently holds a .917 saving average, a 3.14 GAA and has collected 942 saves this season. She recently became the NCAA Division I All-Time Career Saves Leader with 3,782 and acquired two CHA weekly honors and one USCHO.com National Defensive Player of the Week award in the 2009 season.

Miles finished  up the regular-season with 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points.

The Colonials wrapped up their regular-season last week and head to Mercyhurst this weekend to participate as the No. 3 seed in the 2009 CHA Tournament. RMU will take on No. 2 Wayne State on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
