Colonials Fall to Hawks in NEC Tournament Quarterfinals

West Windsor, N.J. - The Robert Morris University men's tennis team concluded its 2008-09 campaign at the Northeast Conference Tournament this past weekend at the Mercer County Tennis Center, falling to No. 4 seed Monmouth, 4-0, in quarterfinal action before dropping a 5-2 decision to No. 8 seed St. Francis (N.Y.) in a consolation match.

RMU, which entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed, finishes its 2008-09 campaign with an overall record of 3-17. 

Against the Hawks, Corey Forrest earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over sophomore Aaron Haas (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Montour) in singles action at the No. 3 flight, while Laurance Heads downed sophomore Daniel Becker (Carnegie, Pa. / Carlynton) at the No. 4 flight, 6-1 and 6-0. Monmouth, which earned the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights, sealed the win when David Sherwood downed freshman Kyle Bradley (Mt. Pleasant, Pa. / Mt. Pleasant), 6-0 and 6-2, at the No. 5 flight. 

In the consolation match against the Terriers, junior David Pinto (Burlington, Ontario / Nelson) earned a 6-2 and 6-4 win over Esteban Mesa at the No. 2 singles flight, while the Colonials earned the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights.

Haas and Becker teamed up the No. 2 doubles flight to earn an 8-4 win over Danlahdi Robinson and James Brenna Tsang, while Bradley and junior Nazari Dorosh (Trafford, Pa. / Norwin) earned an 8-3 win at the No. 3 doubles flight over Vihren Todorov and Daniel Gonzalez.
